As a child, we had a short story that we were taught in school. The story went like this, a bird laid an egg and was being incubated in the nest. The birdling in the egg considered the egg as its world and was very comfortable with its knowledge of the egg in which it was. Then it grew big and hatched out of the egg, that is when it saw the nest at it lay on the floor of the nest. Its understanding of the world went through a paradigm shift from the small confines of an egg which met all its nutrition and safety requirement to a bigger world of a nest. There was more space, there was less confinement, but also less nutrition and security as it could now feel the temperature, wind and movement of the nest.
Then it saw the mother bird which brought food and fed the birdling. This is when it realised that there were more birdlings in the nest and it had to compete with them for space and food. Once sufficient strength was gained, the nest was explored fully, and time to step out of the nest came about. This is when the bird realized that the world was bigger than the nest and that it extended to the tree in which the nest was built. The story proceeds to the point where the bird starts to fly and realizes that the world is indeed very big, dangers are real and work needed to be done to address hunger pangs.
This story is being told as it did have a profound impact on me as a kid and made me realize that we need to be open to change our views and consider the fact that our views may not be the only one nor the correct one. It is only with experience, that we realize what is the majority view and minority view and rationalize the reasons for the same. Honestly, I do not believe there is a right view and a wrong view.
We as humans are thinking beings, if you really consider it, the human body is a universe in itself which is impacted by what is outside and also inside, while at the same time it impacts the external environment and internal sense of well being. We feel, see, hear, taste and retain the same in memory, this accumulated memory is used to direct our reactions to similar events as it occurs. While this is at a base level and can also be to an extent found in other living beings, there is a more complex algorithm happening in human beings.
The ability of humans to understand history, interpret events, form opinions and feel comfort and frustrations are very complex. This ability requires huge amounts of data to be considered, interpreted and decided on. From childhood, a person assimilates information, experiences, learning and tempers their view of the world and happening around them based on their own analysis of the data assimilated and react or refrain from reacting. The manner or reacting and refrain from reacting also is based on the analysis and interpretation of information assimilated. This is called the sensibility.
How the situation or event is viewed is unique to the individual and may or may not resonate with other individuals. This unique view a person has can be considered the worldview of the individual. As many people in the world as many worldviews to contend with. This small byte on the world wide web is where I want to share my world view on everything under the sun.
